Do you remember hearing about a fire happening on the Universal Studios backlot in Hollywood back in 2008? Here is a link to the New York Times article for those who need a refresher: http://tinyurl.com/y2jglcnc

“According to a new report from the New York Times, a fire that swept the Universal Studios backlot in Hollywood, Calif., in 2008 resulted in massive damage that wasn’t publically reported, including losses of irreplaceable master tapes from some of country’s biggest names. Universal claimed after the fire in 2008 that the damage was “relatively minor.”  The company reported that a vault of video and television media was destroyed, along with a portion of the studio tour” (Taste of Country, “LORETTA LYNN, MERLE HAGGARD + MORE CLASSIC COUNTRY RECORDINGS DESTROYED IN UNIVERSAL FIRE” http://tinyurl.com/yxqkgj7y)

“According to the original report, Universal initially claimed the damage was “relatively minor,” but internal documents published by the Times dispute that account. “The West Coast Vault perished, in its entirety. Lost in the fire was, undoubtedly, a huge musical heritage,” a memo written in March of 2009 states” (Taste of Country, “REBA MCENTIRE, GEORGE STRAIT REPORTEDLY AMONG 800+ ARTISTS WHO LOST MASTERS IN UNIVERSAL FIRE” http://tinyurl.com/yxg5zepb)

We can only imagine how these artists must feel. We’re sure it was hard enough to hear about the fire in general. But finding out over 10 years later that your masters were part of the casualty must feel like a punch to the stomach!

“The cause of the fire is now believed to have been a blowtorch used by workmen to repair the chapel roof on New England Street around 3am. They reportedly followed policy of standing watch for an hour (to spot any fire after the work) then went for a break. The fire was reported at 4.43am by a security guard. The Universal City Fire crew were on scene four minutes later, by which time a whole block of facades was engulfed” (TheStudioTour.com, “2008 Fire” http://tinyurl.com/y5w2jl64)

What are your thoughts on this whole situation? What would you do if your masters got destroyed? Let us know in the comments below.

NBC’s Best Time Ever is known for its humor, but the latest show featuring Reba is one for the ages. Reba helped with the western theme of the show, and performing a cover of Taylor Swift’s “I Knew You Were Trouble” while Neil Patrick Harris and others performed an old western brawl. Reba has been busy lately, planning her Vegas tour with Brooks & Dunn starting in December!

Taylor Swift had an incredible year in 2014, and so did her fans.

After releasing the widely popular 1989 album, Taylor Swift decided to kick things up a notch. This time she wanted to focus on giving back to her fans.

That’s when the term #TayLurking came into the picture. Basically, Taylor and her team decided they were going to study every detail of a fan to give them the perfect holiday gift.

Once the perfect fan was found, a Santa emoji from Taylor Swift would appear on their social profile.

Grab some tissues, and check out the video below.

This year Taylor Swift nabbed the spotlight as she made the switch from Country, to Pop Music. Boy was the switch big, bold, and a complete 180 from the Taylor we grew up with. But all in all, she managed to hit it out the park. Here are some of Taylor Swift’s biggest moments of 2014.

Taylor Swift Listening Party

We’re sad we didn’t get the invite. But earlier this year Taylor welcomed fans over to her new apartment in Tribeca for an album listening party.

If you weren’t invited to a special T. Swift listening party, chances are you had to buy the album to listen. Swift pulled 1989 off the music listening sight due to artistic differences.

Just watch “Blank Space” here. You get the idea.

Taylor Swift Album Sales

Yup, she hit it out of the park. The album topped 1.2 million in sales in its release week and she broke the record for most sales in a release week since Eminem back in 2002.

What a year it has been for Country Music. We just about saw everything we needed to see in the last 12 months. There were highs, lows, and lots of laughs. We had some incredible, unforgettable times.

Here are 10 of 2014’s s Best Moments in Country Music.

10. The Return of Garth Brooks

Garth came back! After a 13 year hiatus, Garth Brooks made his return to the scene with a new album, tour, and a song that made us love our Moms a little more. Watch his unforgettable performance of “Mom” on Good Morning America.

9. Brantley Gilbert Finds Love Again

After ending his engagement with Jana Kramer, the Country Music star found love close to home.

“I met this little girl 10 years ago,” he explained live on the Bobby Bones show. “She’s a hometown girl who teaches school about a mile up from my house.”

Fun Fact: She’s the girl who inspired his hit “More Than Miles.”

8. Carrie Underwood Shows Her Baby Bump

Our Country American Idol winner Carrie has been sporting a baby bump this year. Watching her grow along the way is kind of like watching your sister go through a pregnancy.

7. Country Music Said Goodbye To Taylor Swift

It wasn’t easy letting go. We grew up singing and listing to her music while getting ready for prom, camping with the girls, and getting our hearts broken. It’s as if every song she wrote was a reflection of our current situation. No, we didn’t date Taylor Lautner, but let’s be real. When you’re 15 and someone tells you they love you, you’re gonna believe them.

6. Two Country Singers Come Out

Billy Gilman and Ty Herndon came out, on the same day. It was a first in Country Music, and the two received nothing but support from fellow artists, fans, and friends.

5. Blake Shelton Lip Synch

Blake Shelton made us laugh a whole lot this year. One of the most hilarious moments came when we did a lip synch with singer Gwen Stefani on Jimmy Fallon.

4. Lady Antebellum Pay Tribute To Luke Bryan

After suffering another devastating loss, Luke Bryan canceled his appearance on CMT Artists of The Year to be at his brother in law’s funeral.

Lady Antebellum took the stage at the awards show and sang their rendition of Luke’s “Drink A Beer,” in memory of his brother in law.

3. Country Music Ice Bucket Challenges

As a means to raise awareness for ALS, Country Artists from far and wide dumped cold buckets of ice water on their heads and took to social media to promote the cause.

2. Girl In A Country Song

Maddie & Tae couldn’t have said it better with “Girl In A Country Song.” The song discussed the roles of women in Country Music, then turned the tables on men in their hilarious music video.

Conway and George Strait never did it this way.

1. Vince Gill Wins Irving Waugh Award of Excellence

The only other country music artist to receive this award was Johnny Cash. Vince Gill is Country Music’s best friend. His incredible contribution to Country Music over the last 35 years is awe inspiring. 18 CMA Awards, 20 Grammys, and over 26 million albums sold. Hats off to you Vince. This award was richly deserved
