Do you remember hearing about a fire happening on the Universal Studios backlot in Hollywood back in 2008? Here is a link to the New York Times article for those who need a refresher: http://tinyurl.com/y2jglcnc

“According to a new report from the New York Times, a fire that swept the Universal Studios backlot in Hollywood, Calif., in 2008 resulted in massive damage that wasn’t publically reported, including losses of irreplaceable master tapes from some of country’s biggest names. Universal claimed after the fire in 2008 that the damage was “relatively minor.”  The company reported that a vault of video and television media was destroyed, along with a portion of the studio tour” (Taste of Country, “LORETTA LYNN, MERLE HAGGARD + MORE CLASSIC COUNTRY RECORDINGS DESTROYED IN UNIVERSAL FIRE” http://tinyurl.com/yxqkgj7y)

“According to the original report, Universal initially claimed the damage was “relatively minor,” but internal documents published by the Times dispute that account. “The West Coast Vault perished, in its entirety. Lost in the fire was, undoubtedly, a huge musical heritage,” a memo written in March of 2009 states” (Taste of Country, “REBA MCENTIRE, GEORGE STRAIT REPORTEDLY AMONG 800+ ARTISTS WHO LOST MASTERS IN UNIVERSAL FIRE” http://tinyurl.com/yxg5zepb)

We can only imagine how these artists must feel. We’re sure it was hard enough to hear about the fire in general. But finding out over 10 years later that your masters were part of the casualty must feel like a punch to the stomach!

“The cause of the fire is now believed to have been a blowtorch used by workmen to repair the chapel roof on New England Street around 3am. They reportedly followed policy of standing watch for an hour (to spot any fire after the work) then went for a break. The fire was reported at 4.43am by a security guard. The Universal City Fire crew were on scene four minutes later, by which time a whole block of facades was engulfed” (TheStudioTour.com, “2008 Fire” http://tinyurl.com/y5w2jl64)

Women in country music are not being given the radio airplay they deserve or need to keep their presence in the media. So Luke Bryan is taking a stand and starting to speak up about it.  Bryan is even quoted in the article saying, “It’s definitely a conversation that we do always [have], and even going forward. We’re always making sure that we’re doing our, I guess, due diligence … and not missing out on a talented woman out there, a talented young lady that’s up and coming,” Read more here: https://bit.ly/2MFFqGK

And speaking of women in country music, the same article also lists songs from various women in Country music that require our attention. The list includes “Ladies in the 90s” by Lauren Alaina, “Buy My Own Drinks” by Runaway June, “Friends Don’t” by Maddie & Tae, “Butterflies” by Kacey Musgraves, and “Miss Me More” by Kelsea Ballerini.

At this year’s Grammy Awards, Katy Perry, Kacey Musgraves, Little Big Town, Miley Cyrus, and Maren Morris graced the stage with the one and only Dolly Parton for a tribute to Dolly Parton herself. Watch the performance here:

Starting it off is Kacey Musgraves and Katy Perry with “Here You Come Again” while sporting similar looking red with gold accents outfits. After about a minute, Dolly herself joins them on stage and takes over the rest of the song, all while wearing an all white with red accents outfit and red high heels.

It wouldn’t be a Dolly tribute without “Jolene”! And we can’t have a performance of “Jolene” without Miley Cyrus, Dolly’s own goddaughter. Miley begins walking out to Dolly and then proceeds to start dancing with her tongue out, in true Miley fashion.

The next song performed was “After the Gold Rush” from her Feels Like Home album. Miley stayed on stage for this song. Maren Morris joined them on stage for this performance.

For her new song “Red Shoes” from her album titled Dumplin’, the soundtrack for the 2018 Netflix original movie, Little Big Town, or as Dolly called them Little Big Shots, joined in.

And just when you thought it was over, they couldn’t end it there. How can you have any sort of Dolly tribute anything without 9 to 5? Everyone else returns to the stage for this song, during which you saw the audience at times standing and grooving along with them.

What was your favorite part of the tribute? What is your favorite song from Dolly Parton? Talk to us in the comments!
